About This Site
EnergyReckonexists because generator sizing advice online is either a spec-sheet dump, a thinly disguised ad, or a forum argument. The actual method — running watts, plus the single largest motor surge, plus sensible headroom — fits on an index card. This site turns that index card into a calculator and surrounds it with the practical knowledge you'd otherwise get from a good installer standing in your driveway.
Where the numbers come from
Appliance wattages are typical published figures from generator-industry sizing charts and manufacturer datasheets — good defaults, clearly labeled as estimates, with your appliance's nameplate as the ground truth. Generator specs (running/starting watts, noise, weight, tank, runtime) are the manufacturers' published ratings; where a maker doesn't publish a figure, we show a dash rather than a guess. Prices are typical street prices and clearly marked approximate, because they move weekly.
What we will and won't tell you
We'll tell you which generator fits your load, which one we'd buy, and who should skip each pick. We won't tell you how to wire a panel — inlet boxes, interlocks, and transfer switches are electrician work, and every page that touches the topic says so. For medical equipment, treat everything here as a starting point for a conversation with a professional.
How the site makes money
Right now, nothing — there are no ads and no affiliate links live on the site. If that changes, the disclosure page will say so plainly before it happens. Either way, the sizing math is deterministic and identical for every model, so no commercial relationship can change your result. Recommendations are chosen from specs and ownership factors, with the counter-case (“skip it if”) published alongside every pick.
Corrections
Spec sheets change and we occasionally get one wrong. If you spot a figure that doesn't match the current manufacturer datasheet, email energyreckon@gmail.com and we'll fix it and note the change. Being correctable is the whole point of publishing the sources.
