How the tiers and hours are used

Required / Recommended / Luxuryis a fixed triage per appliance (a fridge is always Required, a table saw is always Luxury) — each downstream calculator decides for itself which tiers to count, shown as toggleable chips on that page. The generator page defaults to all three since generators have the most headroom; battery and solar default to Required + Recommended, since a portable power station or a modest array can't realistically carry everything a whole house owns. Battery and solar also always drop anything that isn't realistic to run off an inverter at all — pumps, central AC, other big motors — regardless of tier. That's why those two pages show something like “7 of 11 House appliances count here” instead of matching your full House total: the difference is always spelled out right below it, not a bug.

Running and peak wattsassume everything you've selected could be drawing at the same time — the safe-side number for sizing an inverter or generator, regardless of hours/day. Daily energy (kWh) and cost use each appliance's own hours/day instead, since a fridge running 24 hours and a garage door opener running a few minutes shouldn't be treated the same way.
